Eigth bulletin, January 10, 2013

Dear Participant in RiS4,

By January 16, 2013, the length of the day will have increased by 43 minutes in Copenhagen, there may be a slight frost (check the weather forecast here: http://www.dmi.dk/eng/index/forecasts.htm), and we will commence the RiS4 conference at the University of Copenhagen at 09.15!

If you have not already done so, you can check out the program at http://rhetoricinsociety.hum.ku.dk/programme/ to assure yourself that we are in for three days of diverse intellectual discussion.

With this last news bulletin, we also want to make sure that you are aware of the various social events in connection with the conference:

Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 16.45 we begin with a welcome reception at Copenhagen City Hall. To welcome you to Copenhagen, we have invited Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Mogens Lykketoft, a veteran of Danish politics. You will be able to register for the conference at the reception, and equally important, enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres while meeting other conference participants.

We end the first day of the conference, Wednesday, Jan. 16, with a reception at 17.30 at the university cafeteria. For those of you who are students, we have booked a table at the restaurant spiseloppen in Freetown Christiania from 19.00 where you can go after the reception for an informal and self-financed dinner. We have sent out a separate invitation for this event; if you haven’t received it but would like to, please let us know at RiS4@hum.ku.dk and we will forward it to you.

Many of you have registered for the conference dinner on Thursday, Jan. 17. Meet us at the restaurant Langelinie Pavillonen at 19.30 for an aperitif and a three-course dinner with two glasses of wine. There will be live music as you arrive and a soloist playing for you before the dessert (in both cases a fusion of jazz and traditional Gambian music).

On Friday, after three days of academic exchanges, you will be able to unwind catch up on earlier conversations that might have been interrupted, and say the last good-byes at the farewell reception held in the university cafeteria from 16.15. A string duo and a tango quintet will entertain us while we enjoy tapas and drinks.

Please join us at these social events; they’re perfect for forging new scholarly friendships.

See you next week!
